Secrets for Driving Traffic Directly to your Blog

When you are have created your website you probably feel as proud as a new parent. After all you have just watched the birth of your own idea and now it’s time for the first few toddling steps. Driving the traffic to your blog is next on the agenda and this is a crucial step to ensuring the success of your site. You have to hook the public with your content and ideas. You may have decided on a self-hosted site, or perhaps you opted to use WordPress or Blogger. The platform you choose really won’t matter that much, as far as generating traffic goes, because there are some specific guidelines that are always going to be used to bring the traffic to your blogging doorstep.

The majority of bloggers will know that SEO is critical when it comes to getting the exposure and online visibility that is necessary to succeed. After all the basic reason a blog exists is to attract readers and generate customers. Search engine optimization can not be ignored and there are some great resources for you to use to help you get your online blog off to a blazing hot start.

When you are first getting interest generated about a blog you can count on Squidoo and Hubpages to give you a hand. This gives you a place to create your own lenses and hubs that deal with your particular blog niche. Once you have taken this step it is easy to create the links to your blog site with either the direct link connections or by using the RSS feed. These link modules are available on both Squidoo and Hubpages.

Do not overlook the help that other blogs can give you. If you leave some comments on a number of closely related blog sites it can mean a big boost to your own traffic. Make your comments informative, even if they are not very lengthy. A one or two word comment will not catch the eye of anyone, but a more relevant remark can provoke interest from a number of readers. Avoid using those overworked, repetitive comments that pop up so frequently because they are not being read by anyone. In other words, be at least a little creative in your posting.

For successful traffic you need to take advantage of the benefits that you can gain when you use social bookmarking. It will probably work to your advantage to be a little choosy and begin by bookmarking a limited number of these sites with your posts. If you cast your net too wide it will come across as SPAM, which is a definite no-no. Reddit and Stumble Upon are a couple of prime places to begin your bookmarking tactics. In addition to the limited posts, make sure that you bookmark for others because this will make it seem that you are really part of the social network and not circling the community like a shark in the ocean.

You can also reap some rewards for your blogging efforts by connecting with the social networking sites that are currently in high demand. Facebook and Twitter are two good choices to focus your efforts on. Remember that you need to keep your niche in the forefront of your mind as you build a profile and start creating your own interconnected community. Once more you need to keep communication as important as your task of creating links to your own site and products.

Forums with related ideas and information can help you gain exposure and create a familiarity with the public. The more familiar your name and site becomes the more likely people will want to do business with you. To get your name moved to the top of the list in your niche markets try searching Google by typing in “the name of your niche + forum”. This should provide you with the target listings that you will need to begin this plan of attack.

What you want to do is to use these methods to build trust and familiarity with a large network of people on the Internet. This will help you create friendships and generate some much needed exposure online. As people begin to feel comfortable with your name and site, it will make them more inclined to purchase products from you, which is good for your online business.

How to Get Traffic and Ranking in Google

Posted from a forum: How to get traffic and ranking in Google.

I just want to make it perfectly clear - IF you do not have a follow up system in place, half decent sales copy, and a half decent offer to promote, you are just spinning your wheels using any of these tips. So please - horse before cart.

Now, I’m not going to delve too deep into any of these tips, simply because if I gave you all of the tools I use the competition would get too fierce and none of us would make any money at all. BUT - I am going to give you enough to get started using the tactics I am using right now, so you can get half-decent traffic coming in with a little bit of elbow grease and some research.

So here we go.

Step One, you need to get yourself a landing page. To heck with those templated squeeze pages and all of that junk, go find yourself a Wordpress template that is super simple, open it up in an HTML editor, and strip everything - and I mean EVERYTHING but the main post page away. Gone. No header, no menus, no links, no commenting, nothing. Not even the titles for your posts - JUST the post text, and a half decent looking background.

If you want to skip this step, there are commercial Wordpress templates available that already do this, but you absolutely have to make sure that A) youre using Wordpress as a platform and B) youve stripped away every possible distraction from your message.

You MUST use an SEO plugin for wordpress, otherwise youll be losing out on valuable traffic here. Do your homework, find one you like, and install it now before moving on.

Step Two, write a free report detailing something related to your product, and make it sell. It takes a bit of talent, some time, and dedication to do this - BUT with some work, your free report will be fantastic. Dont outsource this to a content writer, under any circumstances. And if you do choose to outsource this step, use a content writer first, and then hire a copywriter to make the content sell. Most copywriters won’t write a free report for you, but they will edit it so that it presells your product. Or you can do it yourself. Either way, you want a content rich free report that presells your product.

Step Three - get your free report online, and setup your autoresponder to capture names on your new wordpress landing page and send them your new free report. You can also setup the rest of your autoresponder sequence now, so that when people start subscribing youre not scrambling to get follow up messages to them that lead back to your paid offer. This even works for CPA offers, just skip the free report - but collect their email for access to a free whatever the CPA person is offering, then have the autoresponder direct them back again and again.

Dont skimp out on content for your autoresponder. It is not your automated salesman, it is a content delivery service and should be treated as such. Just make sure that your content leads back to your primary offer as a helpful suggestion.

Step Four - okay, now you should have a landing page done up using wordpress, a free report that presells your offer, an autoresponder that delivers the free report and sends people back to your offer. Whats next? Research. You want to take your primary niche and dig down, down, down… Take, for example, dog slippers. I love that example. So we have slippers for dogs, that is pretty niche. But is it far enough? No way!

If you go to Google’s keyword suggestion tool, you see that “dog slippers” gets 6600 searches per month - but a lot of competition. But we also have “snoop dog slippers” - 36 searches per month, “slippers with dog” 58 searches, “dog paw slippers” 91 - and every single one of these has less than low advertiser competition, 2 out of 3 have NONE.

Step Five - Now you have some search phrases that people are using. In this case, “snoop dog slippers”, “slippers with dog”, and “dog paw slippers”. Now you want to plug each of those search phrases into Google, and see how many competing pages there are, and how relevant the advertisers are (if there are any). So for the keywords above, we have 77,000 pages and one relevant advertiser, 6 million + pages and dozens of advertisers, and 32,900 pages with 3 relevant advertisers, respectively. Because “snoop dog slippers” showed us that Snoop D-O-double G is bringing out his own line, and that isn’t what were targeting, the best keyword to work on right now is “dog paw slippers” - 91 searches per month, not a lot of organic search competition, and not a lot of relevant advertising.

Step Six - Use SEO firefox or whatever program you use to find out how many high PR backlinks the site that is number one for “dog paw slippers” has. You can see it is a PR3 page, no social bookmarking, and less than 4000 links. We can beat this - trust me.

Step Seven - Start writing 5 articles. Or outsource 5 articles. Or get 5 articles however it is you get 5 articles. But make them QUALITY (please, do not spread more crap content around the internet. It will bite you in the caboose.)

Step Eight - Start a free blogger blog, and put one of your articles up linking to a SECOND free blogger blog. Now put up a new article linking to your landing page.

Step Nine - Repeat the process above until you have 5 blogger blogs all pointing towards your landing page with quality content, and a link from an article on each blog pointing to the next blog your created. On the last blog, link to your landing page AND another web 2.0 property like squidoo, hub pages, etc.

Step Ten - Create some more content on web 2.0 properties and link them all together. Ping your blogs, hub pages, Squidoo lenses, etc. using ping services like Pingoat - as well as pinging your landing page.

Step Eleven - Do some social bookmarking for your blogs, your landing page, your lenses, etc.

Step Twelve - PING your social bookmarks.

Step Thirteen - use a series of high PR web 2.0 sites to link to your landing page and one of your blogs each time.

You’ll now have a network of high ranking, relevant blogs and web 2.0 properties pointing towards your landing page, with a number of high PR links pointing to your landing page and your blogs. If the content is valuable, and the comments and things that you used to get your high PR backlinks are contributing something instead of just spamming, you WILL get traffic, and you WILL rank high in the search engines for these phrases. I guarantee it.

There are other more powerful strategies here, some of them maybe a little gray hat that will amplify the effect of these strategies even more, but this is enough to get you started getting some real traffic to your site.

The key to making this work - do NOT use crap content, and do NOT spam web 2.0 properties. You’ll get banned, your backlinks will disappear, no one will read your content, and you’ll get exactly SQUAT for all of your hard work.

Blog More for More Traffic

There is a simple way to increase the amount of daily traffic your blog receives. It doesn’t involve elaborate linkbait articles, contests or advertising.

You don’t need a link from a popular blog nor do you need to pimp your site by commenting aggressively on dozen of other blogs.

In fact, this method doesn’t involve any extraordinary efforts on your part. You don’t need to learn the intricacies of search engine optimization, nor do you need to even focus on networking within your niche.
Volume Blogging can Increase Your Visitor Traffic

The trick is rather simple, you’ll only need to create new content as often as possible for your blog. This means increasing the volume of your blog posts substantially, in an attempt to attract more search engine and referral traffic.

Volume Blogging‘ follows a basic logical process, one that is perhaps so matter-of-fact that I have not come across any articles on this specific topic. The traffic equation here takes the following form:

–> The more content you write..

–> The more blog posts get indexed by search engines or social websites

–> The more long tail keywords you eventually rank for which leads to..

–> Increased search engine visibility and referral traffic and..

–> A greater number of visitors arriving at your website daily.

I’ve personally tried this process with some new blogs and have noticed upwards of 30% growth in terms of overall monthly traffic over a period of several months.

It’s not hard to imagine why: Content is the source of all traffic and the more content you have, the more opportunities you have for search engine or referral traffic.
Is Volume Blogging for You?

This traffic strategy can be very beneficial for new blogs because they really need visitors to develop an audience.

Blogging as often as possible allows you to fill your archives with content, while attracting traffic naturally from search engines. I’ve also noticed that if you have an established weblog with an decent number of backlinks, volume blogging is an excellent method for you to grow your audience base.

Established websites have the uncanny ability to rank well for whatever keywords that are in their title tags and this is something you need to exploit if you’re weak or lazy in the marketing/linkbaiting department.

The sheer volume of blog posts forces search traffic to your website, which you can then convert into regular followers by highlighting your flagship content or providing incentives which entice them into taking specific actions.
Testing the Volume Blogging Strategy: Something You can Undertake

In a bid to increase Dosh Dosh’s traffic levels, I’ve decided to experiment with volume blogging in this month of July 2007. As such, I’ve made a choice to add at least one more blog post everyday and measure the effects on overall visitor traffic.

If you’ve just started a new blog or have been blogging for a while, why not try the volume blogging tactic for a month to see if it helps to bring in more traffic? You can always write shorter articles for your additional blog posts so as to save energy.

A lot does depend on the specific keywords you are targeting as well, so make sure that you pick a bunch and include them regularly in various blog posts. If you haven’t already, be sure to read my article on how to find your longtail keywords.

If you have some time to spare and desparately want to increase your daily traffic ratio, try working the volume blogging angle. It might be just what you need.
